The 4th edition of the Salloné della Moda fashion event successfully launched on 10 September in Rotterdam. For 3 days young fashion designers – both international and Dutch – were revealing their latest collections to fashion professionals, photographers, bloggers and just fashion lovers. During all 3 days next to fashion shows one could admire also thematic exhibits and presentations.
I had the opportunity to join the fashion “party” on Day 2 where the following four designers were presenting their collections.
ODIO & Pieczarkowski (Poland)
The collection is a collaboration between the designer Aleksandra Ozimek and designer Jakub Pieczarkowsi. The eye-chatching texture and density of prints were making each of the designs into a work of art.
Joelle Boers (The Netherlands)*
* The images of the collection are from my post on FashionClash festival in Maastricht were the designer was presented the collection earlier this year.
Chloe Sung (Hong Kong)
Feminine and elegant – the collection accentuated the female body with colors, fabric and cuttings.
Josh Santana
The final show of the evening was a colorful beachwear collection of Brazilian designer Josh Santana.
As I have mentioned, the evening was not only about fashion shows. Within the framework of presentations the fashion researcher and designer specialized in sustainability and clothing psychology Hasmik Matevosyan presented her book “Paradigm Shift in Fashion”. The researcher is convinced that it is possible to change today’s fashion industry making it more ethical and environmental friendly.
According to Hasmik, one of the steps towards achieving the sustainability in fashion is to start a dialogue between fashion brands/ retailer and consumers in order to design clothes based on consumer’s needs and desires.
It was an interesting presentation that left me with many questions. Unfortunately the time was limited to discuss the details. I hope to meet Hasmik again (may be for an interview), so I can share a bit more with you about the results of her research and solution ideas.
Apart from presentations, in between the breaks the guests could admire the latest collaboration of Dutch designers Judith van Vliet and Chris van den Elzen – “Dark Depths”, as well as check out the futuristic collection by Jasna Rokegem “Brainwave”.
That’s it for this time! In the end I would like to share my look of that day and a short video from the event.
