The most fashionable comic characters – Snoopy & Belle – are in Amsterdam!
On the 13th of May, fashion designers, industry professionals, press as well as just fashion lovers got together to celebrate the official opening of the traveling exhibition “Snoopy & Belle in Fashion presented by MetLife” at Art’otel Gallery 5&33.

The exhibition reimagines the first “Snoopy in Fashion” initiation launched by Connie Boucher from Determined Production more than 30 years ago.
In the beginning of the 80’s Boucher came up with an idea to reach out to world-famous designers with the request to design original ensembles for Snoopy and his sister Belle. The idea was so unusual that even Charles M. Schultz found it hard to believe that the world’s most talented designers would be eager to create clothes for his beloved Peanuts comic characters.

Nonetheless the initiation was met with great enthusiasm. Well-known fashion houses along with Gucci, Chanel, Oscar De La Renta, Georgio Armani, Karl Lagerfeld, Hermès, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler and many others were happy to create unique designs for the famous siblings.
The gala opening of the first exhibition took place at prestigious venues like the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and the Seibu Art Forum in Tokyo in the mid-1980’s.

The new “Snoopy & Belle in Fashion” edition along with the iconic models from the original exhibition, includes the creations by Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein Collection, Bibhu Mohapatra, Christian Siriano, Costello Tagliapietra, DKNY, Swarovski, Diane Von Furstenberg, Dries van Noten, Dsquared2, Emanuel Ungaro, Isaac Mizrahi, Isabel Marant, J. Mendel, Lisa Perry, MAC Cosmetics and other famous labels.

Betsey Johnson, who has been participating during both projects, presents 4 complete outfits for Snoopy & Belle – two pieces from the original exhibition in 1984 and two outfits specially designed for the celebration of 30th Anniversary of Snoopy & Belle in Fashion in 2014.
In fact, there are two types of dolls at the exhibition: the plush dolls from the 80’s and the recent versions from vinyl.

Dutch designer Edwin Oudshoorn also made his contribution to this special exhibition. An evening dress decorated with sequins for Belle and an outfit for Snoopy based on his earlier designs clearly showcase the designer’s signature style.

This is definitely the cutest exhibition I have visited so far! It is amazing how detailed and complete the looks are! Each tiny element of the outfit is well thought of.
These little canines seem to have clothes for probably every occasion: from chic evening gowns till a special outfit for playing tennis and even astronaut suits (just in case the exhibition will be hosted in the International Space Station 😉 )! I am not even mentioning those adorable little umbrellas, hats and other accessories – they are a must see!
To be honest I am a little jealous to them)) It is a dream of each fashionista to have such a selection of designer garments. Btw. my favorites from the collection are the ballet ensembles by Isaac Mizrahi, tennis suits by Gucci and a charming evening look by J. Mendel.  Which one do you like the most?

What can I say more? It is a beautiful exhibition! If you happen to be in Amsterdam between 14/05/15 – 23/06/15 I would really recommend to visit it. The admission is free!

This is it for this time. I hope you enjoyed the post! Don’t forget to let me know which looks you found the most interesting! Till next time!

      • Ottawa, ON, Canada. I tried looking the site for tour dates to see if it was going to be stopping here in Canada, but I could not find a menu to pull up and access.

        • hm..I also couldn’t find that info in their website. Btw. here is the link:

About the plans to display the exhibition in Paris, Milan and Tokyo I learned from people who have organized the one in Amsterdam. To be honest, I have not idea if it will travel to Canada too, but I really hope it will! I am sure you will enjoy it! It is a very cute exhibition!
